Responsible for the ongoing provision of high-quality clinical care to patients at Gove District Hospital.

Context statement

A Rural Generalist - GP obstetrician (RG/GPO) is a Medical Officer employed or regularly performing duties in a rural or remote

hospital or community setting who has advanced skills in obstetrics and gynaecology, as well as core skills and experience in Rural

and Remote Medicine. The Medical Officer will hold a DRANZCOG (adv) and usually will have been admitted as a Fellow of the

RACGP or ACRRM. (Medical Officers Enterprise Agreement, Clause

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide shared antenatal care and coordination for women of all risk levels across the East Arnhem Region.

  1. Provide intrapartum and postnatal care within the limits of the hospital's agreed scope of practice.
  2. Ability to provide comprehensive neonatal care including advanced neonatal resuscitation, level three nursery care (BSLs,

jaundice, risk of sepsis cover, respiratory support when it is felt the support can be weaned quickly) and normal/well newborn

care and discharge checks.

  1. Opportunity to provide minor gynaecological procedures and to manage simple gynaecologic problems through the outpatient

GP obstetric clinic.

  1. Provide, coordinate and facilitate diagnosis, patient management and discharge planning, including provision of accurate,

timely and legible medical records, including medical reports and discharge summaries.

  1. Participate in on-call, after hours and weekend rosters as determined by the Director of Medical Services or delegate.
  2. Direct, coordinate, supervise, manage and evaluate the work of subordinate medical staff, including medical students, in the

provision of patient care.

8. Lead and participate in continuing medical education, professional development, peer review, research and teaching, including

the provision of training to medical and nursing personnel in aspects of obstetric medical care.

9. Adhere to Best Work Practice Standards as laid down in the Northern Territory Medical Officers Certified Agreement.

10. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership

practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or Australian College of Rural and Remote

Medicine (ACRRM) or equivalent and eligible for general/specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

2. Broad postgraduate experience and recent relevant experience in clinical practice.

3. Recognized advanced specialised training or extended skills training in obstetrics (advanced DRANZCOG).

4. Demonstrated capacity to lead a multidisciplinary clinical team and provide medical officer supervision.

5. Demonstrated ability to interact positively in a cross-cultural work environment.

6. Evidence of commitment to continuing education, teaching, research and quality assurance activities.
