Job Description

This role is responsible for supporting hazardous materials field testing, with a focus on Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM), mercury, BTEX, and H₂S monitoring during subsea pipeline decontamination. The Hazmat Technician/Occupational Hygienist will work under the supervision of the Decommissioning Supervisor and in close coordination with the Project Radiation Safety Officer (RSO). Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct real-time hazardous materials and occupational health monitoring.
  • Accurately record and maintain testing data.
  • Support hazardous decontamination operations across project sites.
  • Ensure compliance with site occupational & HSE policies and procedures.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly documentation and reports in a timely and organised manner.
  • Contribute to end-of-project NORM clearance assessments and waste classifications.

Skills and Experience

  • Degree in science/engineering (e.g., Occ Hygiene/OHS, Environmental/Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science).
  • OHTA W201 (Basic Principles of Occupational Hygiene) completed or willingness to complete.
  • 3–12 months total exposure (internship/placement/graduate work) involving sampling/noise/ventilation basics. Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Proficiency with a range of software applications.
