Head Teacher Technological and Applied Studies

Francis Greenway High School is an inclusive comprehensive secondary school with a large Support Unit. The student population continues to grow with a current enrolment of 760 students. 9% of students have a background where English is an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) and 21% identify as having an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background. The school forms part of the Gateway Learning Community of schools who, as a group, provide a continuous path of learning for all students.

Students are provided challenge and support to reach their educational potential, including targeted strategies to support high potential and gifted students and Explicit Instruction. Students engage in a variety of extracurricular activities in sport, science, culture, the arts, drama, music and leadership. The student body are represented in decision making processes across the school through both the Student Voice Team and the Junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group. A strong wellbeing focus is based on clear, consistent and fair boundaries, high expectations and individual recognition of success.

The school values the support of its community. We have fostered strong partnerships with universities, cultural institutions, business and industry, and community groups. Our Parent and Citizens body is a highly supportive group involved in the decision-making process and the operation of our school canteen. The Maitland Local AECG is a valuable consultative body which supports our Junior AECG and implementation of the Aboriginal Education Policy.

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

• Demonstrated high-level educational leadership skills with the capacity to lead and manage staff across different courses and experience levels to promote a collaborative and high performing team environment.
• Expertise in leading the implementation, evaluation and improvement of curriculum and assessment to improve the educational outcomes for all students.
• Experience in, or willingness/ability to, integrate Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications and competency-based learning into curriculum to enhance practical learning opportunities, work placements, and pathways to employment.
• Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with the school leadership team to drive school improvement through the school's Strategic Excellence Plan.

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
