Subiaco, Australia Eastwood Law Full time $80,000 - $120,000 per year

We are seeking an experienced litigation lawyer to join our specialist estate disputes practice. This role offers genuine autonomy in managing a diverse caseload of contentious estate and succession matters, combined with mentorship from senior practitioners.

Key responsibilities include:

Matter management

  • Manage a portfolio of estate litigation and dispute resolution files independently, with appropriate supervision and support from senior practitioners.
  • Conduct initial client consultations and provide preliminary legal advice.
  • Work to develop strategies and advice clients on prospects of success, risks and costs.
  • Maintain detailed file notes and ensure compliance with all practice management and regulatory requirements.

Legal Work

  • Advise on contested Wills, family provision claims, testamentary capacity disputes and executorial conflicts.
  • Draft pleadings, affidavits, court documents, legal correspondence and advice.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare written and oral legal advice.
  • Instruct and liaise with barristers and expert witnesses as required.

Advocacy and Dispute Resolution

  • Appear in the Supreme Court of Western Australia and other relevant jurisdictions.
  • Conduct settlement negotiations and attend mediations and conferences.
  • Prepare for and conduct trials where required.

Client Relationship Management

  • Provide clear, compassionate and commercially focused advice to clients.
  • Manage clients expectations and maintain regular communication throughout matters.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, referrers and professional networks.
  • Handle client concerns in accordance with firm policies.

Practice Development

  • Contribute to knowledge sharing within the firm, including training.
  • Participate in marketing and business development activities.
  • Maintain and develop referral relationships with financial planners, accountants and other professionals.
  • Stay current with developments in estate litigation, succession law and relevant procedural changes.
  • Contribute to practice area publications, presentations or thought leadership where appropriate.

Selection Criteria

Essential Requirements

Qualifications & Admission

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD).
  • Current practising certificate and admission to practice in Western Australia.

Experience

  • Minimum 2-4 years post-admission experience as a lawyer.
  • Demonstrated experience in litigation or dispute resolution, preferably in estates disputes, personal injury or commercial litigation.
  • Experience drafting court documents, pleadings and affidavits.

Technical

  • Strong legal research, analysis and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including drafting legal documents and correspondence.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage complex factual scenarios.
