Empirical Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Deputy Engineering Manager to oversee and coordinate engineering activities across complex acquisition and sustainment programs. This is a leadership role for a Chartered Engineer with proven technical expertise, governance experience, and the ability to guide multi-disciplinary teams toward successful delivery of critical national capability.

You will play a pivotal role in providing engineering leadership, technical assurance, and professional development for a growing team, while ensuring compliance, quality, and best practice across projects.

What You'll Be Doing

As Deputy Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Oversee and coordinate engineering activities across acquisition and sustainment programs

  • Provide governance to ensure capability requirements are met through structured engineering processes

  • Develop, manage, and maintain the engineering documentation suite

  • Provide formal engineering advice and exercise delegated engineering authority

  • Manage and maintain technical risk registers and mitigation strategies

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop engineering staff, delegating and coordinating tasks effectively

  • Collaborate across technical and project teams to provide input into multi-disciplinary streams

  • Review and provide engineering feedback on contractor deliverables to ensure quality and compliance

  • Organise and facilitate workshops, reviews, and collaborative forums

  • Ensure adherence to organisational quality management systems and standards

  • Support senior engineering leadership with oversight and coordination of key initiatives

What We're Looking For

We welcome applications from professionals who bring:

  • Chartered Professional Engineer status (Engineers Australia or equivalent) or eligibility to attain chartered status

  • Tertiary qualifications in Systems Engineering (or equivalent professional experience)

  • Knowledge of structured capability acquisition processes and systems engineering frameworks

  • Strong leadership and management skills, with proven ability to coach and guide teams

  • Demonstrated experience in engineering governance, assurance, and compliance

  • Familiarity with structured contracting frameworks and engineering documentation (e.g., ASDEFCON)

  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

You'll be highly regarded if you also bring:

  • Experience delivering projects in Defence, government, or other complex technical environments

  • Understanding of technical, logistical, and operational requirements in the delivery of capability

  • Experience managing cross-functional engineering teams with diverse technical specialisations

  • Knowledge of relevant policy, governance, and regulatory frameworks in complex project environments

  • Active Australian Security Clearance

Pay Range:

$160000 plus depending on qualifications and experience
