About the role

Reporting to the General Manager & Head Chef this full-time Chef position at Bruces Cafe in Wynyard, will be responsible for helping the kitchen team deliver an exceptional dining experience for our customers. As a Chef, you will be involved in all aspects of food preparation, menu development, and kitchen operations to ensure the highest standards of quality, consistency, and efficiency.

What you'll be doing

  • Assist in developing, preparing and cooking innovative and appealing seasonal menus that showcase local, high-quality ingredients
  • Work alongside the kitchen and front of house team to provide customers best-in-class food and service.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety and hygiene regulations
  • Implement efficient systems and processes to streamline kitchen operations
  • Monitor and manage stock
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing kitchen culture

What we're looking for

  • Qualified chef or a 3rd/4th year apprentice with at least 3 years of experience as a Chef or equivalent role in a similar hospitality environment
  • Formal culinary training or qualifications, such as a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery
  • Ability to work weekends and public holidays
  • Expertise in food preparation, cooking under pressure and kitchen management
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Excellent time management, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Passion for using fresh, seasonal, and locally-sourced ingredients
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of food safety
  • Experience in baking and cakes would be valuable but is not mandatory
