The Role
We're looking for an experienced and detail-driven
Garment Technician
to join our team at Oroton. In this pivotal role, you'll support the
Patternmaker
and collaborate closely with our Design, Production, and Merchandise teams to bring apparel designs to life. You'll play a key role in ensuring our garments meet Oroton's premium standards for fit, quality, and construction and are always aligned with our brand's aesthetic. This is a hands-on role that requires a deep understanding of garment construction, technical specifications, and the ability to work efficiently to meet critical deadlines across each season.
This is a
permanent, full-time
position based in our
Abbotsford Design Studio
in Melbourne.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct fittings and provide technical advice to ensure garments meet Oroton's fit and quality standards
- Create and maintain detailed tech packs and workbooks to support the design intent and production accuracy
- Compile comprehensive fit comments, measurement checks, and construction notes
- Manage and respond to supplier queries on quality, fit, grading, and workmanship
- Approve shipping samples for bulk release and ensure they align with pre-production standards
- Collaborate on print placement and grading approvals with Design
- Lead weekly WIP meetings and maintain accurate sample tracking and registers
- Work within critical path timelines to ensure seasonal deadlines are met
- Liaise with internal teams and suppliers to resolve quality issues and continuously improve product standards
What we are looking for:
- 3+ years' experience in a Garment Technician role within the apparel industry
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, grading, specs and QC processes
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to maintain consistency across styles
- Effective communicator with strong problem-solving and relationship-building skills
- Skilled in Excel and Adobe Suite, and able to adapt to changing systems and tech
- Proven ability to work under pressure, manage timelines, and prioritise workload
- Cultural sensitivity and experience in managing offshore supplier communications
- Experience working with high-quality apparel and a keen understanding of premium product expectations
