Position Summary
The Cleaner is responsible for performing a wide range of cleaning duties to ensure that all assigned commercial, residential, and industrial sites are kept clean, safe, and presentable.
The role requires attention to detail, reliability, and commitment to maintaining the high standards of Smart Clean Corporation and its clients such as BHP (via Ahrens), Blackwoods, Brookshire, YMCA, Access Hire, Norwest, and other Pilbara-based facilities.
Cleaners work both independently and as part of a team under limited supervision and are expected to follow all company procedures, safety standards, and client site requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean, sanitise, and maintain a variety of areas including offices, kitchens, bathrooms, workshops, accommodation units, and site amenities.
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, polish, and scrub floors using manual and powered cleaning equipment.
- Dust, wipe, and disinfect all surfaces including desks, benches, tables, and high-touch points.
- Remove rubbish, empty bins, replace liners, and transport waste to disposal areas.
- Refill cleaning and hygiene consumables (toilet paper, soap, paper towels, sanitiser).
- Clean internal glass, mirrors, and windows.
- Report any damage, maintenance issues, or safety hazards to the Supervisor immediately.
- Handle cleaning chemicals safely and in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Follow company cleaning schedules, checklists, and work instructions accurately.
- Ensure compliance with Smart Clean's WHS and environmental policies, including PPE use and incident reporting.
- Participate in toolbox meetings and training sessions when required.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and customer service at all client sites.
Skills and Experience
- Previous cleaning experience (commercial, residential, or industrial).
- Knowledge of cleaning products, equipment, and safe chemical handling.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to complete tasks efficiently.
- Physically fit and able to perform manual cleaning tasks.
- Good time management and communication skills.
- Able to follow instructions and work independently or in a team.
Qualifications and Requirements
- White Card (Construction Induction Training) – required.
- Driver's Licence – required.
- BHP Site Induction – preferred.
- National Police Clearance – desirable.
- Ability to pass medical and site compliance requirements.
Work Environment
Cleaners may work across various sites in Newman, including offices, workshops, and mine-site facilities. The role may involve working early mornings, evenings, or weekends depending on client schedules. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times.
Reporting Line
Reports directly to the Supervisor / Team Leader, who coordinates daily cleaning schedules, safety requirements, and client instructions.
