Every year the Eye and Ear cares for nearly 200,000 patients, with over 136,000 outpatients, over 42,000 emergency patients and over 14,000 inpatients. About The Role
To deliver high level care to patients attending the Unit within the unit's area of medicine.
Key Responsibility
- Provide high quality standards of patient care. This includes assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care in collaboration with patients, carers and a multidisciplinary team.
- Work within an ethically and legally sound framework. Ensure that the delivery of clinical services within the Department is in line with best evidence based practice and the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHSS).
- Work within an ethically and legally sound framework. Ensure responsibilities are undertaken in accordance with the Eye and Ear policies and procedures, Code of Conduct and applicable legislation.
- Information Technology (IT) skills that are commensurate with the requirements of the role.
- Punctual attendance at Clinic and/or Theatre
- Number of units of clinical service delivered per session
- Amount of teaching time delivered
- Attendance at Senior Medical Staff and Eye section meeting
- Timeliness of leave requests
Carry out treatment of patients within the limits of policy determined by the Head of Clinic and entailing Committee.
Carry out investigations which are relevant on patients of the unit or patients referred from other medical staff.
Train attending medical/technical staff as required by the Head of Clinic or Chief Medical Officer.
Supervise the work of Hospital Medical Officers and assistant technical staff allotted to the Unit.
Advise the Head of Clinic in respect to matters pertaining to the Unit.
Arrange instruction of Registrars and students.
Complete or arrange for the completion of medico-legal reports on hospital patients as requested by the Chief Medical Officer or Head of Clinic.
Participate in the provision of out of hours cover as requested by the Head of Clinic.
Participate in regular evaluation of the services provided by the Clinic.
All appointments are subject to a satisfactory Police Record Check, a working with children check (if applicable) and evidence of vaccination status. All staff must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (3 doses) and for clinical staff, patient facing staff and staff working in clinical areas, it is a mandatory requirement to provide evidence of a current influenza vaccination.
