South of Perth Yacht Club (SoPYC) is seeking an experienced and motivated Sous Chef to join our dynamic Food & Beverage team at our prestigious waterfront location in Applecross. This is an exciting opportunity to step into a leadership role at one of Perth's premier member-based clubs, renowned for its fine dining, high-profile functions, and vibrant social calendar.
Role OverviewReporting to the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef is responsible for supporting the daily management of the Club's busy kitchen operations. You will oversee service delivery, ensure the highest food quality and presentation standards, mentor a talented kitchen team, and act as kitchen lead in the absence of the Executive Chef.
This hands-on leadership role will see you contribute to menu development, stock control, cost management, and compliance, while creating memorable dining experiences for our members and guests.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee daily kitchen operations, coordinating staff to deliver efficient and high-quality service
- Lead by example during service, ensuring consistency in food quality, presentation, and timeliness
- Supervise, mentor, and develop junior chefs, apprentices, and kitchen hands
- Assist with menu development, specials, and creative event offerings
- Support stock control, stocktakes, and portion management to meet cost targets
- Uphold HACCP, FSANZ, and WA Food Act compliance, ensuring best practice in food safety and hygiene
- Liaise with Front of House and Events teams to deliver exceptional member and guest experiences
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent)
- Minimum 5 years' post-qualification experience, including at least 1 year in a senior kitchen role
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and motivate a diverse team
- Proven ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-pressure service environment
- Knowledge of HACCP and food safety standards, with a commitment to compliance
- Good communication and collaboration skills across departments
- Experience with stock control, cost management, and roster support
Desirable:
- Experience in clubs, resorts, or large function venues
- Exposure to menu planning, costing, and event catering
- Additional training in food safety supervision, chemical handling, or workplace coaching
