Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for an Ophthalmic Technician located in Loganholme and Mt Gravatt, QLD. The Ophthalmic Technician will assist with patient care by performing diagnostic tests, fundus photography, and assisting in various eye procedures. Responsibilities also include maintaining patient records, and ensuring a smooth workflow within the clinic.

Position Summary

The Ophthalmic Technician plays a key role in supporting ophthalmologists in the provision of high-quality eye care. This position involves conducting diagnostic tests, assisting with clinical procedures, preparing patients for examination, and ensuring accurate documentation. The technician works collaboratively with the clinical team to ensure a smooth, efficient, and patient-centred care experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take comprehensive patient histories and record ocular and systemic health information.
  • Perform a range of diagnostic and imaging tests including:

-Visual acuity testing

-Tonometry (intraocular pressure testing)

-Visual field testing

-Optical coherence tomography (OCT)

-Fundus photography

-Biometry (A-scans)

  • Assist ophthalmologists with minor procedures and clinical assessments.
  • Prepare examination and procedure rooms, ensuring equipment is sanitised and calibrated.
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, post-operative care, and follow-up instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records in accordance with clinic protocols and privacy regulations.
  • Manage inventory and order clinical supplies as needed.
  • Adhere to workplace health and safety standards and infection control policies.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training.

Key Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  • Prior experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or similar clinical support role.
  • Familiarity with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a patient-focused approach.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency with medical record systems and computer literacy.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and patient privacy.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a specialist or surgical ophthalmology practice.
  • Understanding of Medicare and private billing systems in Australia.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Current police check and working with children clearance (if applicable).
  • Immunisation compliance in line with Queensland Health or practice policy.
  • Availability to work flexible hours as required.
