Employment Basis: Full-time
Purpose of the RoleThe Mechanical Fitter is responsible for the precise fitting, installation, and maintenance of mechanical components, fabricated goods, and production machinery used in the manufacture of motorhomes. The role ensures that vehicles and equipment are assembled to specification, operate efficiently, and comply with quality and safety standards.
Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesAssembly & Fitting
- Fit, assemble and install fabricated components and parts to motorhome chassis and vehicle bodies.
- Fit mechanical parts to production machinery such as CNC routers, edgebanders, and ancillary plant equipment.
- Cut and prepare vehicle body panels and structural openings in line with production requirements.
- Position, align and secure components using appropriate tools, fasteners and fixtures.
- Check and adjust mechanical fits and tolerances to ensure precision and correct function.
- Interpret and follow technical drawings, work orders, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Assist in the set-up, alignment, and adjustment of production machinery.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments in line with fitting tasks.
- Perform modifications and adjustments to fabricated parts where required.
- Conduct quality control checks at key stages of vehicle production to ensure compliance with company standards.
- Identify defects, diagnose mechanical issues, and carry out corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts fitted, and QC inspections.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) procedures.
- Perform routine maintenance, adjustments, and servicing of workshop equipment and plant.
- Support preventative maintenance programmes on CNCs, edgebanders and other production machinery.
- Suggest improvements to assembly methods, tooling and processes to enhance efficiency.
- Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting, Mechanical Technology, or equivalent.
- Strong practical experience in fitting, assembly, and use of production machinery.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and SOPs.
- Knowledge of quality control procedures and mechanical tolerances.
- Competency in using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Commitment to workplace safety and attention to detail.
- Team-oriented with good communication skills.
