L2D Architects
L2D is a boutique architectural practice with a specialist focus on the design of controlled environments and research architecture. Since 2015, when we commenced operations as L2D transitioning from S2F/Jacobs, we have continued to partner with our existing client base including leading institutions such as CSIRO, the Walter & Eliza Hall Institute, Department of Primary Industries, and many of Australasia's top universities as well as industry and commercial partners.
Our work spans laboratories, high-technology manufacturing, and specialist research facilities supporting science across human, animal, and plant studies. We are proud to contribute to buildings that advance medical research, improve human health outcomes, and foster innovation addressing global challenges such as sustainability and population growth.
The role
Reporting directly to the Director and Associates, you will take a leading role in delivering projects that require both design excellence and technical rigour. This is a hands-on role for an architect who are interested in managing medium to large scale projects end-to-end, from concept through to construction, across diverse sectors including research facilities, pharmaceutical production, and advanced manufacturing.
You will work closely with our senior team to build strong client relationships and deliver outcomes of the highest standard. With Australia's growing life sciences and technology industries, this is a rare opportunity to contribute to projects at the forefront of innovation, both locally and internationally.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver design and technical solutions tailored to highly specialised research and technology environments.
- Manage day-to-day project operations, including site and contract administration.
- Coordinate multiple stakeholders and projects simultaneously, from initial brief to final delivery.
- Lead and collaborate within cohesive teams to achieve outstanding results.
About you
- Degree-qualified Architect with 5–10 years' experience, or more if aligned with laboratory planning.
- Proven ability to manage full project lifecycles from conception to site completion.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Revitzo, Microsoft Office Suite, and InDesign.
- Appropriate business acumen and ability to prioritise in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
- Excellent communication skills with a proactive approach to client management and team collaboration.
- Eligible to live and work in Australia, with a willingness to travel for national and international projects.
- Background in life sciences and technology industries (a bonus).
Why join L2D?
When you join L2D, you are joining a practice recognised as a global leader in research architecture. You will work on diverse, technically challenging projects alongside experts regarded as the best in their field. Most importantly, you will contribute to buildings that make a lasting impact, advancing research, improving health, and shaping a sustainable future.
