Job Title: Senior Technical Lead – Mainframe

Location: Gold Coast preferred | Sydney considered (Hybrid – 2 days per week in office Tuesday and Friday)

Salary: up to $176,000 - $180,000 + super + bonus (depending on experience)

Type: Permanent, Full-time

About the Role

We're seeking a Senior Technical Lead with strong CICS-based mainframe expertise to lead and mentor a talented development team working on critical mortgage servicing and loan origination systems.

This is a 70% leadership / 30% hands-on role, where you'll guide technical delivery, oversee code reviews, and step in for complex development work when required. You'll collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and key business stakeholders to drive both BAU and major modernisation initiatives, integrating mainframe systems with digital platforms, APIs, and cloud services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to the mainframe development team.
  • Review, troubleshoot, and support development of COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2, VSAM applications.
  • Manage change control, code promotion, and environment management processes.
  • Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, and architects to deliver scalable solutions.
  • Drive modernisation and integration projects across APIs, digital channels, and cloud platforms.
  • Act as the technical SME for audits, compliance, and governance requirements.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in a mainframe leadership role (Technical Lead, Lead Developer, Senior Engineer).
  • Strong technical expertise in COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, VSAM (IBM z/OS).
  • Experience with Endevor or similar source code management tools (e.g., ChangeMan).
  • Familiarity with debugging/performance tools such as XPEDITER, Abend-AID, File-AID.
  • Exposure to Agile and DevOps practices in a mainframe environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across technical and business teams.
