The Company

Brisbane Markets Limited (BML) is the owner of the Brisbane Markets site in Rocklea and is responsible for its ongoing management and development, supporting Queensland's horticulture industry.

BML's Operations team is responsible for maintaining site security and safety for the more than 4,500 people who attend the site each day.

The Role

Brisbane Markets Limited (BML) is seeking a casual "Market Officer" to be available on an on-call basis, with effective customer service and security skills. Mentorship from highly experienced supervisors is provided, making the role suitable for those looking to expand on their existing experience.

The primary focus of the Market Officer role is to ensure a safe workplace for everyone at Brisbane Markets. The duties of a Market Officer include:

  • Establishing good working relationships with tenants, their employees and visitors;
  • Ensuring market users comply with site safety regulations;
  • Controlling access to the site using the Gallagher Access System;
  • Acting as a first responder in emergencies; and
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification required for emergency response duties
  • Investigating and reporting on onsite incidents.

* This role is a casual position requiring availability across Afternoon, Night and Day shifts, wherever coverage is required.

Must be available across rotating shifts: Day (4am-12.30pm), Afternoon (12pm-8pm), Night (8pm-4am) during the week. Weekend shifts are either 4am - 4pm or 4pm to 4am.

Essential Skills and Experience

To be considered for this role, the successful applicant will have:

  • Current open automatic driver's license;
  • Basic computer literacy, including the operation of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and iPads;
  • Current Queensland Security License (minimum Class 1)
  • Participate in a Pre-employment medical inclusive of Alcohol and Other Drug Testing.
  • Must have permanent Australian working rights or applicable visa
  • Physical capability to perform regular patrols and respond to emergencies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English

Desirable Skills and Experience

Experience with the following will be highly regarded:

  • Customer service and/or security roles in a busy environment;
  • Conflict Resolution and Crowd Control;
  • Electronic access control;
  • Emergency response.
