Network Engineer – Cloud Infrastructure | Canberra (Initial Onsite, Flexible Remote Work)

Ahead Group is seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer to join a fast-paced, dynamic team supporting the cloud infrastructure backbone of a leading cloud services provider.

Location:

Initially based in Canberra, with flexible remote work options available after onboarding and initial ramp-up.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the reliability, stability, and optimal performance of the core network infrastructure supporting cloud services across multiple regions.

  • Deliver and execute infrastructure projects, from design and implementation to testing and documentation, with a focus on scalable, secure network architecture.

  • Conduct hands-on operations, including troubleshooting complex incidents, proactive performance monitoring, and capacity planning across a multi-tenant environment.

  • Collaborate with cloud engineering, security, and platform teams to deliver network enhancements aligned with customer and business needs.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including topologies, SOPs, and operational runbooks.

Required Skills:

  • Strong understanding of routing, switching, and core network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS).

  • Proven experience in production support within high-availability environments, ideally in a cloud or large-scale service provider setting.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot critical network issues under pressure and deliver rapid, effective solutions.

  • Excellent analytical and diagnostic skills, with the ability to identify patterns and proactively mitigate risks.

Desired Skills:

  • Network automation experience using tools such as Python, Ansible, Terraform, or similar frameworks.

  • Practical knowledge of cloud networking principles — AWS experience is a strong plus (AWS certification desirable).

  • Familiarity with network monitoring and telemetry tools, and experience in analyzing performance metrics.

  • Understanding of hybrid networking models, SD-WAN, and edge connectivity.

  • CCIE certification highly regarded.
