About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Specialist to join our Industrial Services team. Supporting 24/7 steelmaking operations, this role is central to ensuring compliance, driving a strong safety culture, and supporting the long-term success of our business.
Based in Wollongong – with the perfect balance of coastal lifestyle and industrial opportunity – you will work closely with operational teams to influence safe behaviours, lead risk engagements, and oversee incident investigations to prevent recurrence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert advice on environmental and safety risks, ensuring compliance with license conditions and regulations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain risk assessments, SWPs, SWMS, and safe operating procedures for sites.
- Deliver and monitor training programs to build safety awareness and capability
- Conduct inspections, audits, and task observations, particularly for high-risk work.
- Mentor and support supervisors, contractors, and employees to embed a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
- Lead investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Support continuous improvement through proactive hazard identification and risk management initiatives.
About You
You are an experienced HSE professional with strong communication skills and the ability to influence at all levels. You thrive in complex, high-risk environments and are passionate about fostering a culture of safety and accountability.
You will bring:
- Certificate IV in WHS (minimum requirement).
- At least 3 years' experience in a HSE role (industrial, maintenance, construction, mining, or heavy industry preferred).
- Strong knowledge of ISO Safety) and ISO Environment) systems.
- Proven ability to conduct risk assessments and develop safe work procedures.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills.
- Competency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
