About us
Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission. Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the 'Courts Group'.
Our people enable the Courts Group to deliver on each jurisdictions own strategic priorities while also pursuing strategic opportunities that are interconnected and deliver benefits more broadly.
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is the first level of the Victorian court system and is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria. It has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 locations, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
The Assessment and Referral Court (ARC) will be expanding to Geelong. ARC is a solution-focused court underpinned by principles of therapeutic jurisprudence and recovery oriented mental health practice. ARC focuses on understanding and responding to underlying factors contributing to offending behaviour for people experiencing mental ill health and/or cognitive disability.
About the role
Supporting the Court Coordinator, the Listings Registrar and ARC Coordinator performs a dual function of supporting the listing and registry functions across all jurisdictions and more specifically the coordination of the ARC list, including in-court duties. The Listings Registrar and ARC Coordinator operates in a complex, demanding and sensitive environment. The role requires the ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion while liaising effectively with the Judiciary, court users and more specifically members of the ARC multidisciplinary team, and ARC participants. The role requires regular interaction with accused persons who are experiencing a serious mental illness and/or cognitive disability.
This is a newly created position to support the Assessment and Referral Court expansion to Geelong, a key recommendation from the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System. You will have the opportunity work closely with the multidisciplinary ARC team and gain valuable experience in listings by supporting the Court Coordinator.
This is an exciting opportunity to be an integral part of the establishment of a new specialist court in Geelong.
