About The Role
AEMO's System Design division is responsible for planning the power system in the context of unprecedented transformation. The rapid transition to renewable energy generation and electrification of many sectors (transport, industry etc) has seen sharp rises in proposed transmission connection projects. The Onboarding and Connections Group manages AEMO's end to end process for connecting and registering generators into the National Electricity Market.
As Senior Engineer, you will be able to develop long-term relationships with key energy industry players. Whilst providing training and mentoring to junior team member, you will be given the opportunity to build your reputation through industry forums and working groups, conferences, and memberships.
Reporting to the Manager-Commissioning, this role is available across all states, with AEMO providing a crucial service and fostering flexible work arrangements. Strong team frameworks, a vibrant culture, and well-stablished communication tools help maintain close connections throughout the organisation.
What You Will Be Doing
- Lead the commissioning of various renewable projects through to full output operation working close with various TNSPs, DNSPs across NEM.
- Carry out R2 model validation and drive the R2 close out
- Proactively strengthen AEMO's technical collaboration with clients by ensuring that individual project issues are constructively resolved, focusing on tangible outcomes.
- Provide expert technical advice and technical decision making, utilising constructive and open problem solving, across the areas of performance standard assessment, power system stability, system strength remediation, registration and commissioning.
- Support regulatory changes to recognise and facilitate the integration of large-scale renewable energy projects into the Australian electricity market.
- Develop a coordinated vision and framework for the integration of a variety of generation and storage technologies into the NEM.
What You Will Bring To The Role
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or other discipline relevant to power systems.
- A wealth of experience in Commissioning of renewable projects including T & D projects.
- Demonstrated experience in R2 compliance requirement & R2 model validation
- Establishedexperience in owning and proactively delivering small-medium projects, and practicing a service oriented, outcome-focused and pragmatic approach to problem solving
- Proficient in overseeing generator commissioning and skilled in diagnosing and addressing performance challenges in generators and power systems.
