Senior Engineering Technician (Supportability – Technical Author)

About The Role
As a Senior Engineering Technician (Supportability – Technical Author), you'll be at the forefront of developing and maintaining technical publications that underpin the sustainment and operation of mission-critical systems. Reporting to the Principal Engineering Technician, you'll be responsible for preparing, updating, and enhancing documentation sponsored by Babcock or its partners. Your work will span authoring, illustrations, and graphics, ensuring all content meets contractual and company standards while remaining current and relevant. You'll conduct technical investigations, contribute to risk assessments, and support product safety across the engineering lifecycle. This role also involves producing documentation that supports design improvements, facilitating formal reviews with internal and external stakeholders, and acting as a technical authority when required. You'll play a key role in integrating supportability principles such as ILS and LSA into mission and support system documentation, while also contributing to business development efforts and continuous process improvement. Occasional travel within Australia and overseas may be required.

About You
You're a skilled technical author or engineering technician with a strong grasp of supportability engineering and a passion for clear, effective communication. You understand the importance of accurate documentation in complex engineering environments and have experience applying procedures, codes, and standards to technical activities. You're confident making domain-specific decisions and contributing to the development of sustainable, innovative solutions. Your ability to collaborate across teams and share knowledge helps build operational capability and drive continuous improvement. You're comfortable working independently, managing your own tasks to meet time, quality, and cost targets, and you're committed to maintaining secure, accurate records that support through-life knowledge capture. Whether you're producing technical manuals, supporting bids, or advising colleagues, you bring professionalism, precision, and a proactive mindset to everything you do.

To be successful in this position, you will bring;

  • Australian Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a Commonwealth Defence Security Clearance as defined by AGSVA guidelines.
  • Significant exposure to Authoring Technical publications
  • Understanding of applicable ILS and Engineering Toolsets
