About the role

This is a Fixed term role until 30 June 2026

Location is Flexible - Metro / Any regional office location

Reporting to the Insurance Coordinator, you will be the responsible for undertaking property insurance and Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) claims for natural disaster events that have impacted from Victoria's arterial road network from the October 2022 flood and storm event, and subsequent events.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities

You will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following duties:

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders across DTP, other agencies and external contractors.
  • Assess and undertake the compilation of claims to meet the Department's property insurance and DRFA process from natural disaster events since the October 2022 flood and storms.
  • Be a collaborative and supportive member of the claims assessing team.
  • Implement, refine and provide continuous improvement to the property insurance claims process alongside contractors and internal resources.
  • Provide management with accurate and authoritative advice when required.
  • Proactively support emerging priorities with an agility to shift focus to respond to reactive issues and risks to support requirements of management.

Key Selection Criteria

We are seeking a proactive and analytical professional with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, capable of interpreting complex guidelines or taking informed action where none exist. You will apply sound judgment to resolve issues and support claims assessments. The role involves interpreting and applying relevant policies, and where needed, drafting business cases and policies using research and stakeholder consultation. You will be adept at gathering and analysing data to generate meaningful reports, visualisations, and dashboards, especially where precedents don't exist. A continuous improvement mindset is essential—bringing forward ideas, encouraging innovation, and leveraging existing systems to enhance outcomes. Strong stakeholder management is key, with the ability to build relationships, manage expectations, and negotiate for successful results. Excellent communication skills are required to prepare and deliver clear, engaging presentations or training sessions that convey complex policies or guidelines with impact.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A relevant tertiary degree in business, engineering or public policy or extensive relevant experience.
  • Experience in insurance claims or general process management would be beneficial.
