We're hiring a fit, motivated Civil Earthworks Labourer for immediate start with a small, experienced team. This role offers hands-on site work, clear pathways to machinery operation qualifications, and potential FIFO opportunities for the right candidate.

Role overview

  • Position: Civil Earthworks Labourer
  • Start: Immediate
  • Team: Small, close-knit site crew
  • Location: Regional and metropolitan sites (FIFO opportunities available for qualified candidates)
  • Employment type: Casual

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain earthworks sites: set up barriers, signage, and traffic management.
  • Manual digging, trenching, compacting and shovelling duties.
  • Assist operators with plant and machinery tasks (spotting, guiding, stringline work).
  • Operate basic hand tools, power tools, and small plant under supervision.
  • Load/unload materials, move stockpiles, and assist with site cleanup.
  • Follow site safety plans, report hazards, and complete daily task checklists.
  • Travel to different sites and work variable shifts when required.

What we're looking for

  • Physically fit with stamina for manual labour and lifting.
  • Keen to learn, take instruction, and progress to plant operation.
  • Reliable, punctual, and a good communicator within a small team.
  • White Card (Construction Induction)
  • Valid driver's licence; heavy or HR licence is an advantage.
  • Previous civil, earthworks, or construction labour experience preferred but not essential.
  • Comfortable with FIFO work and staying away if opportunities arise.

Training & progression

  • On-the-job training with experienced operators and supervisors.
  • Structured pathway to plant operation and machinery tickets (e.g., excavator, skid steer) when competency demonstrated.
  • Toolbox talks, site safety training, and access to ticketing course support.

Safety & equipment

  • PPE provided or required: steel-capped boots, hi-vis, hard hat, gloves, safety glasses.
  • Drug & alcohol policy with pre-employment and random testing as per site requirements.
  • Fit-for-work checks may apply for certain rosters or FIFO roles.

Compensation & hours

  • Competitive hourly rate based on experience and site conditions.
  • Overtime and weekend rates where applicable.
  • Potential penalty rates for FIFO rotations and long-distance travel allowances.
