The Major Client Group (MCG)  at Commonwealth Bank partners with our most complex and high-value clients—typically those with annual turnover exceeding $150 million or borrowings greater than $50 million. These clients often have sophisticated corporate structures and full Boards of Directors. Our mission is to deeply understand their businesses, deliver strategic insights, and provide innovative financial solutions that drive sustainable growth.

MCG leads opportunities across diversified industries, property investment, and construction. We also play a pivotal role in supporting clients through significant corporate activities such as mergers and acquisitions, working closely with our National Corporate Finance and Private Equity teams.

Once a transaction is structured, credit-approved, and mandated, the MCG team manages the legal documentation phase—often negotiating with multiple stakeholders and external legal counsel under tight financial close deadlines.

About the Role

This newly created role reflects the strong growth of CBA in the South Australian market. It offers a unique opportunity for a commercially minded individual with strong financial and modelling skills, and a passion for client engagement and deal execution. The successful candidate will be supported with development opportunities to progress into a Director-level role, eventually managing their own portfolio of major clients.

You will work on the largest portfolio of clients within the Major Client Group, reporting directly to the Director. This is a rare opportunity to engage and work with some of South Australia's most iconic companies.

Banking experience is not essential. Candidates from top-tier accounting, legal, or financial advisory firms with strong financial acumen, modelling capabilities, and a keen interest in client relationship management and transaction execution are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead client relationships: Assist to manage and grow a portfolio of diversified businesses with turnover >$150M, delivering exceptional service and strategic advice.

• Drive growth by identifying and pursuing new business opportunities through your network and referral partners.

• Evaluate the viability and coordinate the execution of complex financial transactions.

• Conduct credit analysis, build financial models, and prepare credit submissions.

• Collaborate with Credit and Risk teams to negotiate transaction structures and terms.

• Support the Director and broader MCG team on structured finance transactions.

• Assist in preparing and delivering presentations to clients, including Boards, business owners, and senior executives.

• Develop expertise in Transactional Banking and associated technologies, supporting live client opportunities alongside specialists.

About You

We're looking for someone who brings:

• Experience in assessing business and market risk, and preparing credit analysis.

• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in financial modelling.

• The ability to quickly understand complex transactions, ideally with exposure to credit and transactional risk.

• Strong analytical thinking and relationship management capabilities.

• Familiarity with legal documentation and negotiation processes.

• A collaborative mindset, goal orientation, and a proactive approach to client management.

• A tertiary qualification in Law, Business, Finance, or Commerce is essential. Postgraduate qualifications will be highly regarded.
