The Canteen Manager will oversee the operations of the canteen to provide customer service in the canteen to ensure the sustainability and profitability of the SBA.
Established in 1975, the Sunbury Basketball Association Inc ("SBA") is a diverse and inclusive not-for-profit community hub, serving over 3,500 members from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities.
The SBA's range of basketball programs is specifically designed to meet the needs of a diverse community, from those seeking a fun recreational experience to those pursuing higher-level elite competition. Programs conducted ensure that all individuals, regardless of gender, ability, or background, have opportunities to participate.

Key Responsibilities of the Canteen Manager
Canteen
- Oversee the SBA Canteen Staff Handbook – ensuring compliance with all food safety regulations
- Roster qualified and experienced staff to ensure opening hours have correct and suitable staff ratios
- Oversee stock control – ensuring appropriate stock levels and stock items/variety to meet demand
- Understand, monitor and improve the financial performance of the canteen
- Undertake quarterly stock takes and provide details to the Business Manager
- Project a welcoming and professional internal and external image for our customers by maintaining correct dress code and grooming (Jets hoodie and polo apparel to be provided) for self and all staff
- Ensure the correct set-up and close-down procedures are followed – leaving everything clean, tidy and secure and ready for the next day's trade
- Oversee food preparation, ensuring food is served at the correct temperature and portion size
- Serve at the front counter, collecting and processing correct payment for goods and items sold
- Regularly check for "out of date" stock
- Clean and wipe down machines, tables, benches, shelves and fridges to ensure a clean and welcoming environment and monitor the fryer oil (replacing as necessary)
- Process end of shift cash takings as per operational guidelines
Health and Safety
- Ensure the health and safety of all canteen staff and canteen customers
- Ensure all incidents and accidents that occur within the canteen area are recorded correctly
- Use the correct handling and lifting procedures
Ensure all tasks are carried out in accordance with the canteen's health, hygiene, quality and safety standards
Report all items of identified risk to the Business Manager for investigating and attending to
Customer Service
- Smile, have fun and enjoy serving our customers Always be friendly and approachable
- Serve all food from the clean counters using correct tools and presentation techniques
- Promote customer care through all actions and behaviours
Occasional Duties
- Ensure all staff human resource files are correct and current
- Arrange team meetings as and when required
- Be prepared to be challenged and adopt new work methods/procedures to ensure best practice in the area
- Perform other related duties as may be required by the Business Manager
Knowledge Skills and Abilities required
- Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills – friendly, polite and welcoming
- Experience in complaint handling and conflict resolution
- Ability to organise and prioritise tasks, problem solve and ask questions when needing further clarification.
- Dedicated, committed, hardworking team member who always displays enthusiasm.
- Self-motivated with an ability to manage own time effectively and provide timely responses to all stakeholders.
- Proficient administration and computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft 365 and intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
- Flexibility, openness to change and proactive task completion and problem solving.
- Ethical, honest, trustworthy and dedicated to the SBA, ensuring the SBA's values are upheld at all times.
- Commitment to identifying any issues whilst offering suggestions for opportunities to further grow the SBA and its best service members into the future.
