HOPE has been a provider of community services in Western Australia for over 120 years, providing much needed support for people in the areas of alcohol and other drugs, mental health, justice and family and domestic violence.

About the Opportunity

The Outreach Worker will maximise the potential of the Street Yarning program to provide culturally competent, inclusive & respectful services to meet the needs of the clients. The role focuses on supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged people through brief intervention, mentoring and practical support to improve wellbeing.

As an Outreach Worker you will also provide practical supports such as food, clothing, blankets and toiletries along with referral to other service agencies where required.

Your roster will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday Thursday

Requirements of the Role:

  • Develop and implement individualised case plans with those accessing the service - based on assessment of needs, risks, and strengths.
  • Review case plans and adjust as required.
  • Build trusting relationships with people who access the service.
  • Coordinate referrals to appropriate community services, including mental health, physical health, education/training, housing, NDIS, and legal supports, to address the comprehensive needs of people.
  • Advocate for the rights and interests of the people with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, schools, legal services, and other community-based programs.
  • Represent HOPE in relevant external and internal forums, working groups and committees and foster strong and effective relationships with key stakeholders and the community.
  • Attend relevant committees associated with the Metro Region to build relationships and networks which can support the services being provided in the region.

About you:

  • Minimum Certificate 4 in Youth Work, Mental Health or Counselling or relevant tertiary qualification (degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, Nursing/Mental Health, or approved equivalent) or mix of qualification and experience.
  • Demonstrated 2-3 years' experience in the provision of services in any of the following: counselling, group or family work within the Homelessness, Mental Health or Drug and Alcohol sectors.
  • An understanding of Aboriginal culture and experience in delivering programs that incorporate cultural healing and on-country activities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of strengths based and person-centred approaches.
  • Knowledge of the causes and effects of homelessness, drug and alcohol, mental ill health, suicide ideation, co-occurring issues, risk assessment and harm reduction, impact of addictions impacting individuals, families, and communities.
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills, including building rapport with a variety of people and stakeholders.
  • High-level problem-solving skills and confidence in managing difficult situations.
  • Experience in working independently and as part of a team
  • An understanding of and commitment to working within personal and professional boundaries.

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience in delivery of outreach programs.
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice or the willingness to be trained.
  • Mental Health First Aid and First Aid certificate or the willingness to obtain.
  • Experience in building partnerships with community service providers, legal services, and government agencies.

Appointments will be subject to Australian residency/visa, satisfactory National Police check (within 3 months), Working With Children card, Current C or A class driver's license, and suitable work referees.
