Austin Pathology's Molecular Genetics Laboratory is seeking an experienced and motivated Scientist to join our molecular diagnostics team.Heidelberg location, with multiple public transport options available to Austin HospitalAustin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the north-east of Melbourne and state-wide. About the Department
Austin Health Pathology is a dynamic and growing department within Austin Health, dedicated to delivering high-quality diagnostic services across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. We proudly support Austin Health, the Mercy Hospital for Women, and a wide network of GPs and specialists.
We are currently expanding into the Hume and Loddon Mallee regions, strengthening our presence and accessibility in regional communities through a network of laboratories, collection centers and point-of-care services.
About the role
This permanent Grade 3 role offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic, high-throughput clinical environment supporting cutting-edge diagnostic testing.
A regular day will see you:
Perform routine molecular assays including blood/BM processing, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, droplet digital PCR, capillary electrophoresis, GeneXpert testing, MLPA, Sanger & Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)Analyse, interpret & report test results under supervision of senior scientists and Pathologists. The role requires a strong understanding of quality systems, the ability to prioritise tasks and adapt to changing demands, and excellent communication skills to collaborate with fellow scientists, pathologists, and clinical staff.About you
To be successful in this role you'll bring with you:
Deep technical expertise in molecular biology and bioinformatics, including extensive hands-on experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflows, variant curation, and reporting in a diagnostic setting.Relevant science degree and have at least 5 years of experience in a molecular pathology laboratory, including direct responsibility for complex molecular diagnostic assays and instrumentation within a NATA-accredited environment.Participation in training, research, and test development is expected. Postgraduate qualifications (MSc or PhD) in relevant areas are desirable but not essential.Applicants should submit a cover letter outlining their relevant experience and qualifications.
