At Honour and Plais Early Learning, we take a holistic view of childhood development, blending traditional centre-based education and care with balanced nutrition and paediatric medical support through our Early Childhood Nurses.  This provides an extra element of safety for all children in our early childhood education and care service. Our enrolled nurses, who are medically endorsed, work directly with children needing medical attention. This role is part of our vision to go above and beyond childcare regulations, providing an extra level of care to each child.

The nurse works collaboratively with educators and staff to support the health and well-being of all children.

Position Overview:

The Enrolled Nurse will report to the Centre Manager and collaborate with our other nurses in our centres on ensuring we provide expert medical guidance and care. The on-site Nurse supports the team in managing medication, medical conditions, injuries and illness, and works closely with families to monitor each child's developmental milestones.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a qualified Enrolled Nurse - division 2 (medically endorsed) and AHPRA registered with no provisions
  • Must hold an active and valid blue card.
  • The successful candidate will be required to complete a child protection course (paid by the employer)
  • First Aid and CPR certified.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee Medication Administration
  • In collaboration with the Nominated supervisor liaise with public health authorities during outbreaks of reportable illnesses (e.g., gastro, chickenpox) and seek health advice/information as needed.
  • Educate families and educators about illnesses and medical conditions within the service and community.
  • Monitor symptoms of sickness, follow policies and procedures, and manage exclusion periods for illnesses.
  • Provide first aid for incidents/injuries and complete relevant documentation.
  • Conduct medication audits, first aid kit audits, medical minimisation plans, action plans, hygiene procedures and evacuation bag checks.
  • Inform educators and staff of any changes in medical conditions within the service.
  • Conduct interviews with families upon enrolment to discuss all medical, cultural and health needs.
  • Create and implement medical minimisation plans for children with medical conditions.
  • oversee the monitoring of outdoor temperatures and UV ratings with Educators and give advice accordingly.
  • Contacting parents to discuss their child's illness, symptoms, exclusion periods, recommended actions, and the necessary requirements for their child's return to care.
