About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Foreman – Asphalt Laying to lead a crew of up to 10 employees and subcontractors, ensuring high-quality, safe, and efficient asphalt paving operations. You will supervise daily activities, manage resources, and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate asphalt paving crews to meet project specifications and deadlines.
- Conduct pre-starts, toolbox talks, and SWMS/site hazard briefings.
- Monitor asphalt quality, spread rate, depth, compaction, and job appearance.
- Manage plant, vehicles, and equipment, including pre-start checks, refueling, and secure storage.
- Oversee subcontractors and ensure compliance with site inductions, VOCs, and traffic management requirements.
- Maintain accurate records: daily diaries, delivery dockets, hold points, asphalt tonnes, wastage, and timesheets.
- Report incidents, hazards, and near misses, and implement corrective actions.
- Communicate effectively with clients, supervisors, and internal teams regarding job progress and changes.
- Ensure jobs are completed efficiently, safely, and with attention to cost control.
What We're Looking For
- Cert III in Bitumen & Surfacing.
- Level II Traffic Control and VOC for asphalt paving equipment.
- HR License preferred.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in asphalt paving or surfacing operations.
- Knowledge of sensors, paving equipment, and Paveset or similar systems.
- Experience with MRD, airport, and council specifications.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Basic knowledge of Apple iPad use for site documentation.
