Position Vacant: Tow Truck Operator – Barry James Towing

We're looking for a Towing Operator who can own the scene, talk with confidence, and secure the job under pressure.

This role isn't just about driving — it's about being sharp, fast-thinking, and the kind of person people trust when it matters most. Someone who can stay cool under pressure, read the situation fast, talk with confidence, and sign the job on the spot.

THE ROLE:

We're after a full-time Tow Truck Operator who's not just a driver — you're the face of our business, our frontline sales rep, and the reason customers choose us over the competition.

You'll:

  • Be first on scene (accidents, breakdowns, recoveries) and take control of the situation
  • Speak with people at one of the most stressful moments in their life – calmly, confidently, and with empathy
  • Sell our service with clarity and conviction, helping customers make the right decision under pressure
  • Represent Barry James Smash Repairs professionally at all times

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Confidence. You'll often be up against multiple operators – the job goes to the best communicator.
  • Quick thinking. You need to read the room and know when to lead, when to listen, and when to close the deal.
  • Great with people. Your tone, presence, and ability to build trust in 30 seconds matters.
  • MR Licence (required)
  • Tow Truck Accreditation (DA) preferred – but if you have a clean police record and the right attitude, we can help you get one.
  • Must live within 8 km of Ballarat CBD
  • Able to work Monday–Friday 8am–5pm, with some after-hours and weekend work

BONUS IF YOU HAVE:

  • Prior towing or smash repair experience
  • A sales background or experience dealing with customers face-to-face
