BDAC is an ACCO (Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation) registered as a member under the umbrella of VACCHO (Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation) and represented nationally through NACCHO (National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation).

BDAC was founded to represent and provide services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living on Djaara Country.

BDAC has a responsibility to ensure growth of services, development of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, better and improved health outcomes for our people, improved quality of life and be a lead agency in providing self-determination employment and career pathways for Aboriginal people.

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Clinical Team Leader – Practice Nurse/AHP to lead our clinical team in delivering high-quality, culturally appropriate care. This role is central to supporting our community-focused model and ensuring best practice standards across all clinical services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the nursing team to provide culturally safe, patient-centred care.
  • Coordinate chronic disease management, preventative health programs, and health checks tailored to community needs.
  • Support clinical governance, accreditation, Quality assurance tasks and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with Aboriginal Health Workers, GPs, and allied health professionals.
  • Promote health literacy and empower clients through education and engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, medication management, and clinical documentation standards.

About You/Key Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrate a knowledge of and compliance with all relevant legislation and common law obligations affecting nursing.
  • Discharge of duty of care during practice including meeting practice standards, and accountability.
  • Experience in similar role as a practice nurse or in community-based nursing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the health issues that face Aboriginal people and their communities. Respect, understand & acknowledge the traditions of Aboriginal people.
  • An understanding of an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.
  • Knowledge of current immunisation schedule, diabetes management, asthma management, enhancing primary care items, infection control, CPR and emergency resuscitation techniques, equipment & drugs.
  • Demonstrated patient-focused approach in service provision with genuine empathy and interest in their needs.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding patient and practice information.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently plan and organise own workload. Work cooperatively within a team as well as be able to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage stressful situations and demanding workloads.
  • Effective interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication.
  • Advanced computer skills, knowledge of Best Practice software.
  • Demonstrate previous experience in leadership and managing a team.

Education, Training and/or Competencies

Mandatory

  • Registered Nurse Division 1 with current AHPRA certificate.
  • Certificate IV Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice.

Desired/ Preferred

  • Training or experience in Medicare items numbers.
  • Previous Cultural Awareness training, or willingness to undertake course.
  • Local connections to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
  • Nurse immuniser credentials.
  • Leadership training
