About the Role
As the Manager, Infrastructure Accounting you will have responsibility for (but not limited to) the following:
Subject Matter Expertise (SME): Provide advice on financial management for infrastructure projects, DoE financial policies, and relevant legislations. Support teams in budgeting, forecasting, and reporting within approved frameworks.
Capital Settlements and Accruals: Manage timely capital project settlements and asset capitalisation in line with financial policies. Oversee accruals to ensure accurate reporting and implement processes to monitor work-in-progress and transition to assets
Governance and Compliance: Liaise with QAO on audits, lead reviews of accounting processes to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring robust internal controls
Business Process Improvement: As part of a project team and the lead SME on ISD improvement projects, develop and implement processes, policies, guidelines and practices that underpin an evolved financial management framework for infrastructure asset accounting.
Reporting and Analysis: Evolve infrastructure financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance, and provide analysis of performance and trends
Stakeholder Communication: Partner with various teams and executives to build productive relationships; engaging in regular interactions with auditors and regulators; enabling change management and knowledge transfer through delivery of training, workshops and other educative materials
Management Briefing: Prepare and deliver briefing notes, reports, and recommendations to senior management on infrastructure accounting matters
This position is responsible for the management of human, financial and physical resources and accountable for their effective use. The position reports to the Senior Director and can be required to work across any team with, and at times under, the direction of a Project Manager and Governance Committee(s).
What Success Would Look Like in the First 6 Months
Enhancing Capital Settlements and Accrual Processes: Implement or refine tracking mechanisms to improve the accuracy of accruals and reduce reporting errors
Audit Preparedness: Establish an audit-ready framework for infrastructure accounting, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and Queensland Government financial policies
Business Process Improvement: As lead subject matter expert, perform necessary tasks to meet the deliverables of ISD improvement projects
Risk Mitigation - Develop a roadmap for longer-term enhancements to governance and compliance practices
About You
Strong SME in infrastructure accounting and asset management
Proven experience in capital settlements and project accruals within large organisations
In-depth knowledge of Accounting Standards (AASB) and Queensland Government financial policies.
Ability to translate complex financial data into clear insights for decision-makers.
Strong skills in stakeholder engagement
Demonstrated success in leading and developing teams, fostering best practice and capability growth
Confidence in balancing strategic oversight with hands-on problem solving
Qualification in Accounting (highly desirable)
