About the Role
As a Software Engineer at Babcock, you'll join a global team delivering critical Defence communications systems and other related projects.
You will play a key role in designing, developing, integrating, and verifying software across all stages of the engineering lifecycle.
From requirement gathering to deployment, your work will directly contribute to the capability and reliability of highly secure and advanced systems.
You will be part of an Agile team, developing and maintaining software components, simulators, and tools required to support system development and testing.
This is a hands-on, end-to-end role offering exposure to complex systems in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
About You
You are a driven and detail-oriented software engineer who thrives in a collaborative team environment. With a passion for technology and a commitment to high standards, you enjoy working through the full software development lifecycle and contributing to mission-critical systems.
Your ability to understand the operational use of software, combined with strong problem-solving skills, allows you to create robust, scalable solutions.
Ideally, you bring experience in Agile development methods and are confident in writing, testing, and maintaining software components.
You're comfortable interpreting and working with software requirements, and you take pride in producing clean code and thorough documentation. A background or interest in Defence or secure communications systems will be highly regarded.
To be successful in this position you will bring:
- Proven experience of Java development, preferably Java 17
- Understanding and experience of Object-Oriented Programming
- An understanding of Agile Software Engineering best practices
- An understanding of three-tier web application software architecture and REST+JSON
- Experience of industry-standard libraries, notably Spring Framework, Hibernate, ideally Spring Boot
- Experience of Unit testing and Integration testing using JUnit and Mockito
- Database Development, preferably relational
- Experience with a modern IDE
- Understanding of DevOps and Automated Testing
