Head of Science

Melbourne Grammar School is seeking an inspirational educational leader to join us as Head of Science, commencing in 2026 (flexible start date), based at our South Yarra campus. This is a permanent, full-time teaching position, with the Head of Science role offered with a 5-year tenure, as a position of responsibility.

The successful candidate will play a key role in setting the strategic direction for the Science Faculty and fostering a culture that sparks curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong passion for discovery. Guided by our commitment to providing students with a holisitc education, you will steer an accomplished team of leading teachers and support them in their own growth and professional practice.

This opportunity will see you

  • Leading a collaborative team, bringing fresh ideas and global best practice to ensure the science curriculum remains relevant, challenging, and inspiring for all students.
  • Communicating a clear vision, guiding colleagues in designing engaging science pathways from Year 7 to VCE, and promoting initiatives that deepen scientific knowledge and adaptability.
  • Overseeing curriculum planning, assessment, and professional development, encouraging teamwork, open dialogue, and continuous improvement within the Faculty.
  • Helping build a vibrant, inclusive community through co-curricular activities and active engagement with staff, students, and families.

VIT Registration, or the ability to gain VIT registration, is essential for this position.

Our science curriculum offers two distinct streams: pure science, which helps students understand the workings of the universe, and applied science, which focuses on using that understanding to shape and improve the world around us. Students develop critical thinking, evidence-based reasoning, and practical skills through subjects like Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Psychology, and Physics, all available at VCE level.

We welcome around 1800 students to our school each day.  Our coeducational primary school, Grimwade House, is located in Caulfield. Our boys only middle and senior schools are co-located in South Yarra. Please click here

The role has a whole school focus. This position is based at our South Yarra campus with regular travel to our Junior School in Caulfield. It's a great place to work.
