The successful applicant will join a dynamic team of scientists, post-docs and engineers in the Radar Science team of the Observations, Assimilation and Data Science Section within the Bureau's Research Program.

As part of the Next Generation Rainfall Standardization (Next Gen Rainfall) and Asset Network Planning Forecast Model (ANP-FM) project, a major objective of the Radar Science team is to develop building blocks of a new probabilistic thunderstorm nowcasting service for Australia. A major first step is to develop a national blended radar – satellite rainfall analysis and nowcasting technique named BRAIN using advanced machine learning and blending techniques. To address this long-term objective, the Radar Science Team seeks a thunderstorm nowcasting scientist with radar, satellite and machine learning expertise to develop BRAIN and lead the development of the other future modules of the thunderstorm nowcasting service including rainfall, hail, wind and lightning analysis and nowcasting. The selected applicant is expected to work closely with other scientists of the Radar Science and Satellite Science teams.
