About the role and team

G4S is seeking a dedicated and professional General Practitioner to join our team as a contracted Doctor at Mount Gambier Prison in Mount Gambier, South Australia. This is an opportunity to provide essential medical care to prisoners in a secure environment. This is an independent contractor position, working alongside the support of our clinical team of eight, including our Health Services Manager and team of registered and enrolled nurses.

The duties and responsibilities of the role include:

• Providing general practice medical care and any necessary ancillary services to prisoners.
• Assess prisoners and conduct appointments, maintaining all clinical care documentation
• Prescribe and review medications, and rewrite prisoner medication charts every 6 months.
• Perform medical tasks such as taking blood, tissue samples, and pathology results, and actioning them as appropriate.
• Write referrals to specialists and coordinate with external personnel for prisoner transfers to health facilities.
• Attend medical emergencies within the prison and liaise with internal staff and external practitioners.
• Maintain accurate medical and clinical notes on patients.
• Comply with clinical governance and infection control measures.
• Liaise with G4S nursing staff to assist with referrals and identify infection control measures.
• Identify prisoners requiring specialist medical care and liaise with Prison Health Services and specialists to facilitate appropriate care.

Hours and Compensation

This contract arrangement will be for a minimum of 20 hours per week, ideally across a minimum of 4 weekdays. These hours will be worked on site at Mount Gambier Prison running clinic for individuals in our care. An hourly rate of $430 per hour is provided.

G4S is open to discussing your individual work preferences on the basis that the minimum 20 hours onsite is met.

What we're looking for

We are looking for a qualified General Practitioner registered under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) who will:

• Hold and maintain all required qualifications and professional memberships as required by law
• Provide services with due care, skill, and diligence to a high professional standard.
• Provide written proof of AHPRA registration to G4S.
• Be an Australian resident or citizen, or have proof of an unlimited right to work in Australia.
• Experience as a methadone prescriber is desirable (MATOD endorsed); G4S can arrange completion of this accreditation for you prior to commencing, through your dedicated completion of a 6 hour course.
• Be willing to complete the G4S Background Checks: A police check, 2 x reference checks, and a prison clearance.

Required Insurances

As a contractor, it is essential that you obtain and maintain the following insurances for the duration of the term:

• Medical Indemnity Insurance (including malpractice coverage) of no less than $20 million per claim.
• Personal Accident/Income Protection Insurance.
• Public Liability Insurance of no less than $20 million.
