At BAE Systems Australia
- Do interesting work that MATTERS
- ENJOY what you do
- GROW your career
- Be YOU
We work in a thriving sector – one that puts us at the forefront of exciting and meaningful work. Every day we push boundaries to produce some of the world's most innovative and groundbreaking technology. Individually we all contribute to our success. Collectively we make the impossible possible.
Recognised for delivering projects of global and national significance that help keep Australia safe, it is our shared passion that shapes our culture, and our people that make it a great place to work.
About The OPPORTUNITY
Think of this role as being the guardian of our private cloud. Your day-to-day will involve keeping infrastructure healthy and drama-free: maintaining and updating custom images, applying patches, performing firmware updates, managing an on-prem domain and making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
But you won't just live in the private cloud — you'll also jump in with our Infrastructure & Operations teams to help with BAU work. Translation: sometimes you'll be the go-to hero when something goes sideways, other times you'll be automating tasks to make everyone's life easier. Either way, there's plenty of variety and plenty of tech to play with.
This position can be based out of our Adelaide or Melbourne office with flexible work arrangements such at working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid work environment on offer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Keep servers happy: Admin Linux (Ubuntu/RHEL) & Windows systems.
- Tame the hybrid beast: Manage and troubleshoot Private Cloud & On-Prem Domain
- Be the fixer: Jump in when IO teams shout "it's broken"
- Automate everything: PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, Terraform – your choice.
- Security sorcery: CIS hardening, patching, and keeping auditors from chasing us with pitchforks.
About YOU
You're a
SysAdmin at heart
— someone who knows their way around both
Linux and Windows servers
and has wrestled with private cloud platforms (Azure Stack, VMware, or similar). You understand the importance of
patching, image management, and firmware TLC
, and you get satisfaction from knowing the systems you support are rock solid.
You bring a mix of
hands-on skills and problem-solving smarts
, plus some automation magic with
PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or Terraform
. You're comfortable working across teams, sharing knowledge, and rolling up your sleeves for BAU support.
Most importantly, you care about keeping infrastructure secure, stable, and future-ready — and you don't mind having a laugh along the way. If you don't tick every box but you're excited about the role, we'd still love to hear from you.
As a Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and either possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain appropriate clearances.
We believe in hiring for potential, we know that some candidates hesitate if they don't tick all the boxes. If this role interests you, but you don't meet all the criteria, we still encourage you to apply.
