STA Consulting Engineers is a trusted leader in engineering solutions for residential, multi-residential, and light commercial developments. We're looking for a skilled Hydraulics Engineer/Design Technician to join our Hydraulics Design team and contribute to delivering high-quality, compliant, and commercially viable engineering solutions.
About the Role:
In this role, you'll be responsible for drafting, designing, and reviewing hydraulic systems across a variety of projects. You'll apply your technical expertise to deliver accurate, compliant, and practical designs while balancing engineering and commercial outcomes. Working closely with our design and engineering teams, you'll also play a key role in supporting knowledge transfer, quality assurance, and continuous improvement of design processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver end-to-end hydraulic design and documentation in accordance with STA, NCC and Australian Standards
- Draft and review sanitary plumbing, stormwater/roof water drainage, waste water systems, potable water, gas, and fire service systems
- Check designs for accuracy, compliance, and constructability
- Provide technical support across the business and respond to client and team queries
- Use AutoCAD, internal systems, and calculation tools to produce accurate hydraulic layouts and submissions
- Ensure quality assurance processes are followed, contributing to zero at-fault rework
- Collaborate with team members, share knowledge, and mentor junior staff
Skills and Experience
- 3+ years' experience in building hydraulics within the Australian construction industry (residential or light commercial focus preferred)
- High proficiency in AutoCAD; familiarity with calculation tools
- Sound knowledge of NCC, AS/NZS 3500 series, and relevant council/utility guidelines
- Ability to manage competing priorities, deliver projects on time, and maintain high-quality outcomes
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interpret, apply, and explain standards to clients and colleagues
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering (or equivalent demonstrated experience)
