The Victorian Centre of Child & Adolescent Mental Health (VCMH C&A) is a newly established, integrated mental health service in the rapidly growing South-East corridor of Melbourne. We are dedicated to filling the critical gaps in Tier 2 child and adolescent mental health care, with a specialised focus on neurodevelopmental disorders, complex trauma and other common psychiatric conditions.

Our innovative, one-stop-shop model brings together psychiatry, psychology, and allied health to provide comprehensive, evidence-based assessment and treatment. We are building a team of passionate professionals to address the youth mental health crisis, with a particular focus on supporting vulnerable young people and their families.

About the role

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Psychologist (Clinical, Educational or Registrar)/ speech therapist and Occupational Therapist to play a pivotal role in our dynamic multidisciplinary team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a service from its inception, shaping clinical practices and making a profound impact on the lives of young people and their families.

Your responsibilities will be diverse and rewarding, encompassing:

  • Comprehensive Developmental & Psychological Assessments: Conducting detailed assessments for neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Learning Disabilities) as part of our multidisciplinary team, using gold-standard tools.
  • Evidence-Based Therapeutic Interventions
  • Delivering individual therapy for a range of complex presentations, including self-harm, emotional dysregulation, trauma (C-PTSD), and emerging personality concerns.
  • Co-facilitating and leading group therapy programs, with a primary focus on our established and adapted Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for Adolescents (DBT-A) program
  • Collaborative Care Planning: Working closely with psychiatrists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and social workers to develop and implement integrated, biopsychosocial formulation and treatment plans.
  • Working with Complex Systems: Engaging with family, schools, the NDIS, child protection services (DHHS), and youth justice to ensure a wraparound approach for our most vulnerable clients.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a clinician who is passionate about systemic, family-focused care and is not daunted by complexity.

Essential Criteria

  • Full registration as a Psychologist/ Occupational Therapist/ Speech Therapist with AHPRA.
  • Eligibility for, or progress towards, Clinical Psychology endorsement, Educational psychologist or Registrar program is highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience and training in the assessment of neurodevelopmental disorders in children and adolescents (e.g., ADHD, ASD).
  • Proven experience in delivering evidence-based individual therapy for complex child and adolescent mental health presentations (e.g., trauma, self-harm, emotional dysregulation).
  • Experience in facilitating group therapy programs. Specific training or experience in DBT is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A commitment to culturally safe and trauma-informed practice.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Formal training in DBT or a willingness to undertake intensive training in our adapted DBT-A model.
  • At VCMH there would be an opportunity to have supervised training in this training as well.
  • Experience ins working with parents.
  • Experience working with young people involved in the child protection and/or youth justice systems.
  • Experience in administering standardised cognitive and academic assessment tools (e.g., WISC-V, WIAT-III).
  • An understanding of the NDIS and experience writing reports for funding applications.
