Job Overview
This role is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the All G biofoundry, driving the integration of automation with synthetic biology workflows. Key responsibilities include creating and optimizing workflows to build DNA constructs, transform bacterial and fungal species; developing screen transformants; and analysing protein production using high-throughput robotic systems.
Key Responsibilities
· Oversee the biofoundry, ensuring the smooth running and maintenance of equipment including liquid handlers, colony pickers, and other automation tools.
· Develop and implement high-throughput workflows to build, screen and test microbial hosts including E. coli and Pichia pastoris.
· Assist in developing and refining high-throughput small-scale protein production, purification, and analysis protocols.
· Help with laboratory bookkeeping, SOP writing, strain libraries, and reagent stocks.
· Track and manage biofoundry consumables and reagents.
· Work autonomously and collaborate with the wider R&D team.
· Collect research data, enter/store in appropriate statistical software, and prepare statistical analysis/reports as required and if necessary, carry out literature searches.
· Undertake ad-hoc projects and contribute to broader R&D initiatives as directed by the Core Facility Lead.
· Ensure compliance with relevant ethics protocols and assist in lodging ethics applications.
What We're Looking For
· BSc (Hons) in automation or biology related field
· years of hands-on experience on automation (e.g. arms, liquid handler)
· Aptitude for scripting/programming
· Experience in operating various liquid handling robots (Softlynx, Hamilton) and programming/creating new workflows.
· Experience in biologically relevant field is a plus (synbio, biological system).
· Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day-today operational matters.
· Working understanding of relevant aspects of the Work Health and Safety Policy and relevant legislation, including Safe Laboratory Practices, as applicable to the work environment.
· Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced and forever changing environment.
