About Budgy Smuggler

Budgy Smuggler is an Australian brand proudly built in Manly (NSW) with a mission to have a pair of Smugglers on every beach in the world. We sell swimwear, apparel, and a bold sense of fun, with quality products, fast turnaround, and a unique personality that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Role Purpose

The Kotara Store Manager is more than just a retail leader; you're the heart and face of Budgy Smuggler in the Newcastle Hunter Region.

Based in the buzzing Westfield Kotara shopping centre, you'll welcome hundreds of shoppers each week, from loyal locals to visitors discovering Budgy for the first time. Your mission is to bring Budgy's signature Aussie energy and cheeky charm to life in-store: good vibes, genuine smiles, and an unforgettable customer experience.

You'll spend four days leading the store and one day out in the community, connecting with surf clubs, schools, fitness groups, lifestyle partners, and local businesses across Newcastle to grow the Budgy community.

Key Responsibilities

Kotara Store Operations

  • Lead the Kotara store to create a retail experience as bold and fun as the brand
  • Keep shelves fresh with weekly product drops and eye-catching visual merchandising
  • Recruit, train, and inspire a passionate casual team who proudly wear the brand
  • Schedule staff in line with seasonal trends, school holidays, and local events
  • Act as the eyes and ears of the store, sharing wins, challenges, and feedback weekly with head office

Be the Face of Budgy (& Regional NSW)

  • Deliver best-in-class customer service that leaves people grinning
  • Keep the store looking schmick and sales pumping
  • Know the product range inside-out and help customers find their perfect pair
  • Create memorable moments with in-store events and activations

Build the Kotara Community

  • Spend one day per week out in the community meeting local legends, surf clubs, schools, restaurants, pubs, fitness groups, sports clubs
  • Partner with the Retail and Marketing teams to plan pop-up events and activations
  • Grow the Budgy community through genuine local connections

What We're Looking For

  • A genuine love for summer, Budgy Smuggler, and all things Aussie
  • 2+ years retail leadership experience, ideally in fashion or lifestyle brands
  • A magnetic personality that draws people in and keeps them coming back
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Event or community engagement experience (bonus)
  • Thrives in dynamic, high-energy environments
