L3Harris Communication Systems

Lead, Human Resources Business Partner

Hamilton, Brisbane

About the role

L3Harris is seeking an experienced and strategic Human Resources leader to lead and manage HR operations across Australia and New Zealand. This standalone position reports to a US-based HR Director, with a dotted line to the Australian Managing Director. It's a pivotal role for a seasoned HR professional who can operate confidently in a complex, matrixed organisation—ideally within the Defence and Technology sectors. You'll serve as a trusted advisor to the Managing Director and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), delivering across the full employee lifecycle while driving strategic workforce initiatives, leadership capability, and employee engagement in line with global frameworks and local compliance requirements.

What the role will involve

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:

  • Partner with global Centres of Excellence (COEs) to deliver tailored HR solutions in talent acquisition, learning and development, compensation and benefits, and organisational development.
  • Oversee core HR functions, focusing on employee relations, performance management, and compliance.
  • Lead operational ER casework, including performance, conduct, and bullying/harassment matters, providing pragmatic guidance to leaders.
  • Support frontline technical and engineering leadership capability, driving leadership development and operational excellence.
  • Champion employee engagement and retention, contributing to global working groups and initiatives to enhance the employee experience.
  • Drive career pathways and workforce development initiatives to address local career ceilings and succession planning.
  • Navigate organisational transitions, supporting change management and employee movements across business segments.
  • Provide strategic HR counsel to the Managing Director and SLT on talent management, organisational design, and culture development.
  • Monitor HR metrics and analytics to inform decision-making, improve processes, and foster continuous improvement.

What you'll bring

You are a strategic HR leader who combines operational expertise with a collaborative mindset. With a Bachelor's Degree and at least nine years of relevant HR experience (or equivalent), you bring proven success in Defence, Technology, or similarly structured global organisations—ideally with experience in a US parent company environment. You have a strong track record in employee relations, case management, and leadership coaching, along with a proactive, agile, and solutions-focused approach. Confident working independently and at pace, you're skilled at driving HR initiatives that align with business priorities and foster an engaged, high-performing workforce.
