Dungog Shire Community Centre is a small, independent Community Service organisation that has been supporting members of the Dungog Shire community since 1982.

The Role - Family Worker

Due to internal promotion we are seeking a passionate, professional Family Worker to join our team on a permanent parttime contract of up to 26 hours per week, generally worked across 3–4 days, based at our Dungog office (103 Dowling Street, Dungog NSW 2420).

The role focuses on supporting children and young people aged 0–18 years and their families through:

  • Case management and advocacy.

  • Individual and family support.

  • Group activities and skill-building programs.

  • Facilitating connections to education, health and community services.

  • Counselling & Mediation

  • Safety Planning in the context of family violence

We support flexible work arrangements and are family-friendly in our approach.

About You

We are looking for candidates who are:

  • Self-motivated, professional and capable of managing workload and priorities.

  • Committed to community-led, trauma-informed and strengths-based practice.

  • Respectful, inclusive and able to build positive relationships with young people, families, and

colleagues.

  • Able to work both individually and collaboratively.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Social/Community Services, Youth Work, Counselling, Case Management) or significant relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated experience engaging with vulnerable children, young people and families.

  • Understanding of mandatory reporting and child protection requirements.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong time management skills, with ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new software.

  • Current Driver's Licence and access to a reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle.

  • Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in a not-for-profit or community setting.

  • Additional training (e.g. trauma-informed practice, parenting programs, group facilitation,

mediation etc).

  • Experience planning and delivering activities/programs for children, young people and

families.

  • Knowledge of issues impacting rural communities.

  • Confidence using social media and/or design tools to promote programs
