The office of Ted O'Brien MP is seeking applications for a full-time ongoing Campaign and Constituent Manager, based in the Member's Electorate Office in Maroochydore, QLD.

Position Overview

The Campaign and Constituent Manager is a key member of the electorate office team, responsible for maintaining and developing the Member's relationship with the local community. The campaign manager sets the strategic direction for the Member's engagement with the electorate. Working closely with the Member and staff, the Campaign and Constituent Manager is the member's primary interface with the local community, both in managing and delegating constituent correspondence and in building relationships with local community groups. They also manage the community database and all grant matters. The position requires a deep understanding of local issues, empathy, and the ability to engage with people from all walks of life, and a positive, proactive and high-energy attitude. This is a dynamic role that requires excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and a genuine commitment to public service. The successful candidate will be proactive in identifying emerging concerns and developing expertise on community matters to inform parliamentary work. They will contribute to a safe, inclusive workplace culture and support the broader operations of the electorate office. Ultimately, the Campaign and Constituent Manager play a vital role in ensuring the office remains accessible, responsive, and deeply connected to the community it serves.

The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Managing all constituent enquiries (in-person, phone and email), delegating where necessary, including researching solutions and liaising with government agencies and stakeholders as needed, to resolve matters in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ensure the office provides a timely service to constituent and community organisations.
  • Keep the office informed of issues emerging from constituent inquiries, correspondence, community newsletters etc.
  • Create and maintain relationships with community groups and community-leader constituents who contact the office and ensure an understanding of their needs and find ways for the Member and the team to support them.
  • Manage local campaigns, including developing opportunities for relationships and events.
  • Contribute to briefing reports for the Member on local issues, as well as maintaining a database of Electorate insights.
  • Work with the Media, Communications and Events Manager to arrange community outreach visits and initiate strategic communications to the electorate.
  • Develop expertise on community issues in the electorate and work toward solving problems for constituents.
  • Help with community events, as required.
  • Support and maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Other duties as required to support the Member and the effective operation of the Electorate Office.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:

  • Proven experience in stakeholder management ideally in the community sector, including the handling of personal and/or sensitive issues on behalf of others.
  • Experience in developing relationships with community groups.
  • Experience in political campaigning.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to accurately track, follow-up and follow-through with community enquiries.
  • Knowledge of public policy and local issues as well as grant application processes.
  • Experience in community word, case management, or a relevant field.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, under time constraints and strict deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • High levels of professionalism, confidentiality and discretion.
  • A respectful demeanour when engaging with office staff, community groups and constituents.

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement which include:

  • A commencing salary between $76,910 and $89,793 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
  • An additional optional allowance may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.
  • Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
  • An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

  • An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
  • The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
  • Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
  • The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
