At Merry People, we've spent the last decade building a brand shaped by authenticity, kindness, adventure and joy. Now, for the first time, we're opening a permanent space where our community can experience that spirit in person, and we're looking for a warm, thoughtful and driven Assistant Store Manager to help make that happen.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of our brand's next chapter. As 2IC, you'll be instrumental in setting the tone, culture and experience of our very first retail store, supporting our Store Manager and stepping up as a leader in your own right.
Our Story
Merry People began in 2014 with a sketch, a leap of faith and a pair of boots. Our founder, Dani, was working in a corporate job in Melbourne and couldn't find a pair of rain boots that were both functional for wet-weather commutes and stylish enough for the office. Drawing on her country upbringing in South Gippsland, and a longing for more creativity and joy, she designed her own.
From weekend market stalls to a growing global community, Merry People has become a brand loved for its quality, individuality and optimism. This store is our next adventure, and we'd love you to be part of it.
What you'll be doing
Support the Store Manager in all aspects of store operations, including team management, stock control, and customer experience
Help create and maintain a joyful, welcoming environment for both customers and team members
Lead by example on the shop floor, modelling exceptional customer service, teamwork and brand values
Step into a leadership role in the Store Manager's absence
Assist with visual merchandising and ensure the store is always beautifully presented
Take ownership of daily operations such as opening/closing, stock control and cash handling
Help identify and share customer feedback with HQ, you'll be a key part of the loop between our customers and the wider Merry People team
Support training and development of team members as the store grows
What we're looking for
At least 1–2 years of retail leadership experience, ideally in fashion, footwear or lifestyle retail
A natural communicator and team player who leads with kindness and confidence
Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys juggling multiple priorities
A strong sense of responsibility and pride in your work, you're the kind of person who notices the little things
A customer-first mindset and a genuine love of making people's day
Excitement to be part of something new, and a real connection to our values: authenticity, kindness, adventure and joy
