Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Queensland Government Full time $90,000 - $120,000 per year

Biosecurity Queensland plays a vital role in securing the state's agricultural prosperity and preserving and protecting the health of our environment and economy. We are dedicated to safeguarding both human and animal health by preventing and mitigating plant and animal pests and diseases. We work tirelessly to uphold a high level of animal welfare standards and maintain access to interstate markets, critical for Queensland's thriving primary industries. Biosecurity Queensland monitors and regulates the application of agricultural and veterinary chemicals, ensuring they are used safely and in compliance with legislation. With a commitment to developing capabilities and preparedness, we are at the forefront of protecting Queensland against biosecurity risks.

Animal Biosecurity and Welfare (ABW) supports BQ's efforts to prevent, prepare, respond to, and recover from diseases threatening livestock industries and maintaining access to markets. Our people work together to help mitigate biosecurity risks, uphold standards for animal welfare and animal management and lead the overall DPI response to biosecurity emergency incidents to achieve outcomes consistent with the Department's strategic direction for leadership in animal welfare, exhibited animal, animal management and animal ethics policy and service delivery.

Are you passionate about animal health and biosecurity? As a Senior Veterinarian (Surveillance), you'll play a pivotal role in a small but dynamic, high-performing animal biosecurity policy team. Your expertise will drive the timely and efficient delivery of some of Queensland's key animal health surveillance projects, reinforcing our commitment to a robust national animal health system. You will manage and continuously monitor the collection and collation of scientific data and literature related to state and national animal disease surveillance programs and provide veterinary advice within a science-based policy context.

This includes:
o Utilising sound, scientifically valid judgement to analysis and interpret data.
o Preparing insightful recommendations based on your analysis to facilitate informed decision-making.
o Representing our department at relevant forums, conferences, meetings and on committees and working groups, supporting and advocating for our organisation's policy position when necessary.

It is a requirement for all Biosecurity Queensland positions to have a criminal history check completed.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
