Under the direction of the Dispensing Manager, you will form a vital part of our team and apply your expertise in dispensing services, working closely with optometrists, students, and dispensary staff. Your technical knowledge and eye for style will help guide patients in selecting the right spectacle frames and ophthalmic lenses for their needs.
Beyond dispensing, you will support clinic operations by managing front desk administrative duties and supporting Doctor of Optometry students during their training in reception and dispensing. This role offers an ideal balance of customer service, technical expertise, and mentorship, an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference in patients' lives while advancing your career in optometry at MEC.

Melbourne Teaching Health Clinics (MTHC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Melbourne and provides world class clinical training opportunities for the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences students. About Melbourne Eyecare Clinic
The Melbourne Eyecare Clinic (MEC) engages the postgraduate students from the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences to provide comprehensive eyecare services under the supervision of leading optometric practitioners in Melbourne. It also carries a wide range of designer and budget frames for men, women and children and a full range of contact lenses, including soft, rigid, and orthokeratology designs, are fitted by staff.

Essential Selection Criteria
- Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing or equivalent relevant qualification and/or experience
 - Substantive demonstrated experience in a front desk customer service environment, undertaking administrative duties and clinic coordination utilising a database client management system
 - Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and productivity while managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment to meet the needs of patients, stakeholders, and the business
 - Willingness and capability to effectively train students in technical optical dispensing skills
 - Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with confidence in engaging a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
 - Proven capacity to independently and collaboratively within a team, proactively using initiative to drive improvements in clinic operations and customer service
 - Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office Suite, internet, and email
 
Desirable
- Experience in training and/or mentoring others
 - Experience using an optometry patient management system (e.g. 'Sunix' or 'Optomate')
 - Experience working within a fast-paced eyecare clinic or optical dispensary
 - Ability to operate EFTPOS machines and a capacity to deal with banks
