About the role

AI Build NT Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced and skilled Leading Hand and a Carpenter to join our team on a contract or hourly basis in Girraween, NT. As a Leading Hand and Carpenter, you will play a crucial role in the construction and maintenance of various residential, commercial and remote projects, ensuring high-quality workmanship and adherence to safety standards.

What you'll be doing

  1. Lead and supervise a team of carpenters and other tradespeople to ensure efficient and effective completion of construction tasks
  2. Perform a wide range of carpentry and building
  3. Interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and specifications to guide the team in executing the work
  4. Ensure all work is completed to the highest standards of quality and in compliance with relevant building codes and regulations
  5. Maintain a safe and organised work environment, adhering to all health and safety protocols
  6. Collaborate with project managers, clients, and other tradespeople to coordinate activities and resolve any issues that arise
  7. Mentor and provide on-the-job training to junior carpenters and apprentices

What we're looking for

  1. Formal carpentry qualification (e.g. Certificate III in Carpentry or equivalent)
  2. Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Leading Hand, preferably in the residential or commercial construction industry
  3. Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  4. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on quality and safety
  5. Knowledge of relevant building codes, regulations, and construction best practices
  6. Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
  7. Strong time management and organisational skills to ensure project deadlines are met
  8. Current driver's licence and construction certifications (e.g. White Card, etc.)
