The Role

The Research and Development Engineer is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and improving the architecture, hardware, software, and networking of payment solutions, ensuring a high availability for all Next Payments' payment solutions, customers and all products and services.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide support to Next Payments Operations in the development and maintenance of new and existing hardware, software and associated services.
  • Create and implement change management plans.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external service providers to implement and maintain new and existing infrastructure.
  • Create and maintain user documentation on processes, policies, hardware and application configuration and help related materials as new products and services are developed.
  • Ensure disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities are in place and regularly tested for systems in your areas of responsibility.
  • Research new hardware and software solutions for new and existing business products
  • Troubleshooting of technical issues, including diagnosis and analysis, and providing a resolution path for hardware, software, and networking issues.
  • Installing and configuring hardware and software.
  • Performing evaluation and testing of software and hardware including developing test plans; assessing hardware and software for functionality and quality assurance throughout product lifecycle.
  • Directly supporting the roll-out of new products, including hardware and software applications.
  • Establishing good relationships with all departments and colleagues.
  • Being able to manage multiple projects and incidents at one time.
  • Supporting the CTO / R&D department to ensure systems meet the needs of the business.

About You

  • Ability to build strong relationships both inside and outside the organisation.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Tertiary qualification (Certificate IV, Diploma or Degree) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electronics, or relevant job experience beneficial.
  • Competency with different operating systems (Windows / Linux based OS) and their support and deployment.
  • Proven work experience as a Technical Support Engineer, Desktop Support Engineer, IT Help Desk Technician, or similar role.
  • ITIL experience, or experience with service improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with electronics or electro-mechanical systems (with experience with cash accepting or dispensing equipment preferred).
  • Experience with networking and communications protocols and technologies.
  • Ability to use standard office software (Office 365).
  • The ability to test and evaluate, develop and support both physical and software products supporting cash management and cash delivery and acceptance technologies, as well as other business activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to assist in both non-technical individuals with complex technical issues.
  • Ability to provide step-by-step technical help, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and be able to juggle multiple tasks.
