About the Role:

The Senior Geophysicist is responsible for provision of professional geophysical advice and services. This role works both individually and as part of a team to assist with addressing the State's strategic priorities in relation to the sustainable management of South Australia's water resources. The role focuses on providing advice on matters relating to borehole geophysical data contributing to the management of the State's groundwater resources, supporting projects in various groundwater systems across the State and providing Geological input into key departmental initiatives. The position is also accountable for managing a small team of technical and operational staff that undertake downhole geophysical logging as well as interpretation and reporting of geological and geophysical information.

Key Role Outcomes

  • The Department's management of natural resources is informed with professional geophysical services in relation to groundwater projects and systems.
  • Planning, coordination and delivery of groundwater projects for internal and external clients, including project briefs, contracts, governance, financial and communication arrangements.
  • Business needs are met through the effective management and allocation of team financial and human resources.
  • Sound operational procedures are developed and maintained.
  • Contributes to the achievement of team and organisational goals through understanding and demonstrating the SA Public Sector Code of Ethics.
  • Stakeholders are engaged and partnerships maintained across Government.

Contract:

Contract up to 30 June 2027.

Essential Qualifications:

A tertiary qualification in engineering, natural resources, science or equivalent, with emphasis on geophysics/hydrogeology is essential.

Special Conditions:

  • May be required to participate in responses to state emergencies or associated duties.
  • You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or provide evidence that you hold a valid working visa that allows you to work in Australia without restrictions.
  • A current class "C" driver's licence and willingness and ability to safely operate a 4wd is essential.
  • Inter and intrastate and remote area travel is required, including travel in light aircraft.
  • May be required to undertake intra and interstate and remote area travel, occasional overnight absences, and work outside of the normal hours of work.
  • This role has been designated as a Position of Trust pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework. Prior to being employed, the successful applicant will be required to obtain a National Police Check.

PO3 $101,285 min - $107,078 max p.a.
