Principal Policy Officer
- Bring your economic policy analysis and systems thinking skills to Insurance Monitor to make an impact for the people of NSW
- Be part of transformational projects which drive better insurance outcomes for the future
- Advance your career working with a highly skilled and motivated team in a small, independent agency
- Central Sydney location, with flexible working options available
About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Policy Officer to lead the development and implementation of policy initiatives for the newly established Insurance Monitor function at IPART. You will play a key role shaping regulatory settings through strategic policy advice and technical analysis.
You will lead projects that deliver evidence-based policy frameworks, provide expert advice to senior leadership and the Tribunal, and contribute to the development of a robust regulatory environment that supports fair outcomes for NSW insurance customers.
This is a temporary full time position up to 31 July, 2028.
About you
We are looking for a go-getter who thrives on delivering outcomes within agreed timeframes and with autonomy. You will be highly efficient at time management to address multiple priorities and have the resilience to cope with unforeseen and evolving issues.
You are a strategic thinker with a strong background in policy development, economic analysis, and regulatory frameworks. You thrive in complex environments and enjoy solving challenging problems that have real-world impact with curiosity, resilience and creativity.
Previous experience in a strategic policy role is a must, and experience with a government regulator, in the insurance sector or policy role with a peak body would be a positive. You're comfortable navigating complex government policies and processes and operating in a legislatively ambiguous environment.
Essential Experience and Attributes:
- Proven experience in leading complex policy projects and delivering high-quality strategic advice
- Strong economic and data analysis skills, with the ability to interpret market dynamics and legislative frameworks, and translate that understanding into high-level policy objectives and actionable plans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and public discussion papers
- Experience working within government or regulatory environments, particularly in financial services or heavily regulated industries
- Ability to manage competing priorities and lead teams in a dynamic, evolving policy landscape
The salary range for this role is $148,961 - $158,157 per annum, plus superannuation and annual leave loading.
